Volunteering

The Delta-Peach Bottom Emergency Management Area is staffed entirely with volunteers (aside from municipal staff). There are many volunteer opportunities, including local Emergency Operation Center (EOC) staff during emergency situations and emergency exercises and drills.

Most EOC roles will require prior experience with administrative tasks, such as collating information, filling out forms, answering or placing telephone calls, use of online web-based systems, receiving and sending email, printing, making photocopies, scanning documents, and updating status boards.

Volunteers should be willing to participate in exercises and attend a basic level of training in the National Incident Management System (NIMS). Exercises are a way to learn one or more EOC staff roles in a non-emergency environment.

Additionally it is recommended that all EOC volunteers complete the free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training that is periodically offered by York County OEM. This training will provide you with a solid base of knowledge and skills that will be useful during any incident affecting your community.

Biennial Peach Bottom Power Plant Exercise

Every even-numbered year in April, FEMA leads a full-scale exercise of Federal, State, County, Municipal, and corporate emergency response related to the Peach Bottom Nuclear Generating Station. Regular Delta-Peach Bottom EOC staff will be invited to participate in this exercise. Typically this exercise occurs during the late afternoon and evening of one weekday.
